The Role of INAPALM ASIA 2016, INAGRITECH 2016, INAGRICHEM 2016, INAFORESTECH 2016 in Increasing Productivity of Palm Oil Industry and Food Self – Sufficiency

JAKARTA – The dynamics of global economy lately signaling the importance of increasing competitiveness, at the regional level, Indonesia is faced with the implementation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). This situation can also be interpreted as an expectation of opportunities for inter-regional economic cooperation in a wider scale through regional economic integration Southeast Asia.

In the middle of liberalization and free markets, Indonesia actually has the opportunity to take advantage of the economies of scale in the country, especially in the agricultural sector. Because Indonesia is an archipelago with reaching 1.922.570 km2 land area and water area reaches 3,257,483 km2. It covered the area that has the potential availability of land large enough and the potential development of the agricultural sector.

Indonesia actually has a bigger potential than Thailand, Vietnam, and major countries in Europe. In fact, Thailand vast agricultural land is much smaller than Indonesia, able to maximize their crops up to 50 times greater than Indonesian agriculture. This is caused by the high-tech agricultural industry, powered by advanced machines for agriculture and higher government subsidies. It is reasonable if Thailand farming has a higher productivity so that it can perform 1-5 times the rice harvest in a year. While Indonesia is only able to harvest 1-2 times a year, but always run into polemics waters, lack of agricultural technology and agricultural machines are not adequate.

Education in agriculture is the most important aspect to open up horizons of farmers. High educational process is also regularly conducted by the government of Thailand and Vietnam. Since it is very encouraging high productivity, because developed countries such as America and Europe were able to work on land which covers 10 ha only using 10 agricultural machines and one machine operator and can be completed with a very short time. The management of agricultural land in Indonesia had been using hand tractors, but the population compared to the number of farmers tractor one hand to serve more than 400, or more than 100 ha of paddy per season planting. That is, there is still a lot of land cultivated with the use of animals or even humans. Compare this with we neighboring countries even Vietnam which recently stands on the agricultural sector and their figure is much better than us.

The declining public interests in Indonesia for farming, the narrower the farmland. Because of urbanization in Indonesia, so it is not a little more massive abandoned farmland and farmers increasingly abate. To overcome these problems, the Government had to replace human labor with the high-tech engine power so as to maximize agricultural products, this is because of Indonesia has vast land and potential.

Along with the development of agricultural science and technology, we need a change, especially in the cultivation of plants, so in tune with the development of natural conditions, technological developments, social and community. The application of technology in agriculture and improve the quality of the work of farming itself, for example, the uniformity of tillage, planting and weed control effectiveness and efficiency of the plant. The interest of middle-class people to the agricultural sector is increasing, because agricultural sector is an important sector for the benefit of the people. Then the demand for agricultural land is increasing. So even with the need for fertilizers both organic and non-organic in Indonesia continues to increase, along with the increasing demand from the plantation sector, especially oil palm, rubber, cocoa, coffee, sugar cane, cotton, tobacco, corn, and rice. Not surprisingly, in recent years many agricultural businesses arguing with other business resulting oil palm yields decreased 50% due to burning of forests, thereby reducing the quality of palm oil.

Since, Indonesia’s agricultural sector goes weaker, the government under President Jokowi fights for solving and picking up national agriculture and food self – sufficiency by making mads from the downstream to upstream district around Indonesia, extensificating agricultural land, agriculture mechanizing, enhancing the advance technology and machinery and diversificating. By running these national programs, Indonesia under Presidents Jokowi, will have special strength and take the food self – sufficiency out. Indonesia therefore should take over the agricultural sector in ASEAN. No more importing  food!

However, the last five years, the contribution of agriculture to the national economy become apparent. During the period 2010-2016 (early), the average contribution of the agricultural sector to GDP reached 10.29% with growth of around 3.90%. So that investment in agriculture / agrarian both Domestic Investment (DCI) and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) grew on average by 4.2% and 18.6% per year. It is estimated that the total investment in the agriculture sector reached 400 trillion rupiah in 2015. The agricultural sector investment comes from non-farmers in the form of land infrastructure and support facilities. While government investment through national and regional budgets are estimated that only about 4% of the total investment in the agricultural sector.

“Agricultural land in Indonesia is very broad, it makes Indonesia has the potential to boost the national economy quickly. However, because there are still many polemics in the agricultural sector, such as water, inadequate machine, still using human and animal power Indonesia is not able to perform high productivity. Unlike the United States and Europe, which to this day remains employ high-tech machines in the agricultural sector, this makes them very productive and efficient.” Said Baki Lee, Director of Global Expo Management (GEM Indonesia).

Seeing the potential of the agricultural sector in Indonesia, INAPALM ASIA 2016 (Indonesia International Palm Oil Processing Technology Exhibition), INAGRITECH 2016 (Indonesia International Agricultural Equipment and Technology Exhibition), INAGRICHEM 2016 (Indonesia International Agricultural Chemical and Material Exhibition) and INAFORESTECH 2016 (Indonesia International Forestry Equipment and Machinery Exhibition) from 25 – 27 of August 2016 at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta – Indonesia, have become Indonesia’s Largest Trade Show for agricultural & forestry machinery & equipment, agro chemical, palm oil processing technologies, and others supporting technology and services for agriculture industry.

The exhibition is also supported by several government institutions and associations, the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Industry, IPB (Institute Pertanian Bogor), ALSHINTANI (Association of Indonesia Agricultural Machinery), ABI (Indonesia Bio Agropoint Association), PAABI (Indonesian Heavy Equipment Sole Agent Association).

INAPALM Asia 2016, INAGRITECH 2016 and INAGRICHEM 2016 will return to present 250 exhibition companies from 15 countries and expect to attract more 15,000 professional from agriculture business (sugar, rice, flour, corn, coffee, tea, etc), palm oil plantation, forestry, agricultural engineers and experts, farmers, consultants, Reseach & Development, government, institution, associations and universities in 3 days.

We believe the show will boost agricultural productivity and become the total integrated agricultural solutions for Indonesia!
